How do I remove the ratchet from the crankshaft?Is it screwed on?

Crankshaft ratchet removal
Ian, in the centre of the ratchet should be a bolt head, restrained by a tab washer. Bend the tabs back and get a socket on the bolt head. RH thread.
The ratchet should pull off. It can be quite tight into the bore of the rotor.
Consider removing the alternator stator and pulling rotor and ratchet off as one, for later separation. It might be easier and remove chance of damage to stator.

Electra starter ratchet removal
Thanks Peter.I tapped it with a hammer and it fell off.However,it is a beautifully engineered part which defied attempts at pulling and twisting.Simple solutions are the best.
